Our last stop in Cambodia was Koh Rong Samloem. Koh Rong Samloem also known as Koh Rong Samlem or Koh Rong Saloem is a magical place located off the coast of Sihanoukville in Cambodia.
Koh Rong Samloem has managed to keep mass tourism away. There are no cars, no tuk-tuks, no ATMs, and no real roads. The accommodations don’t have warm water, electricity is only available for a few hours at night and wifi is still a thing of the future. This is the perfect place to relax and forget about the real world.
In this post, you will find everything you need to know about Koh Rong Samloem. We spent 5 days on Koh Rong Samloem and loved it so much! That place really took our breath away!

How to get there

Mad Monkey Hostel
The first night we stayed at Mad Monkey Hostel. This hostel has a private bay which can only be reached by boat. If you want to stay there you can take a boat from Koh Rong Samloem’s main pier.
The place itself is beautiful, the food is amazing and the staff is very nice but there are no ways to go to the other parts of the island. The beach at Mad Monkey is nice but nothing compared to the other beaches. We recommend this hostel if you want to meet a lot of travelers, relax all day, and party at night. We felt a bit stuck there so decided to spend the rest of our time at Saracen Bay.

Saracen Bay
Saracen Bay is the main area of the island. It is here that all the ferries arrive. Saracen is a beautiful beach that stretches 3km long, lined with beach resorts, restaurants, and bars of all kinds.
We stayed in a bungalow of the Sweet Dreams hotel and absolutely loved it! On the beach it was mostly just us, sometimes we had to share the sea with some other travelers. We usually have a constant need to keep on exploring but here we enjoyed the slow life! Of course, there are some other activities to do than sunbathing and napping under palm trees;
- Wake up for sunrise
- Hike to Sunset and Lazy Beach
- Hike to Koh Rong Samloems old lighthouse
- Find an overwater hammock and relax
- Cool down in the sea
- Get lost in the jungle
- Drink fresh shakes every day
- Snorkeling
- Diving
- Long beach walks

Sunset Beach

Lazy Beach
Lazy Beach offers a very peaceful, castaway beach vibe. Here you can find some bungalows and a little restaurant. You can get there by following the same path as that for Sunset Beach, but instead of heading right at the fork in the road, you will head left.
The walk will take around 20 min. For this walk, you can wear flip flops as most of the way is sandy.

Lighthouse
From Saracen Bay, you need to walk to the far end of the beach until you reach Dolphin Bay Resort where you will find the beginning of the trail. Following it is very simple, just keep heading straight. From here it’s one hour to the lighthouse (one way). Take enough water with you as there are no shops to buy drinks along the way. You can climb the lighthouse for 1USD which we highly recommend. The views are amazing.

Koh Rong Samloem has got it all! Dreamy beaches, coconuts, and tranquility! If you are looking to disconnect from the modern world than this is the perfect place for you!
Tip: There are no ATMs on Koh Rong Samloem so we recommend you take enough cash with you.
